Communion, Don’t Miss It
3.16.8
Luke 19:28-44
Here we see the last week before Jesus is
crucified.
During this week:
He travels back and forth to Bethany to
temple.
Some of His most talked about teachings
Silences all of His critics
All that happened was leading to the point of
the Passover where He changed it to what we call
communion/Lord’s Supper.
There are several prophetic passages about
this event.
Read Luke 19:28-44
At this point in the passage He says
something I want to key in on for a minute.
In the course of the story there are a lot of
people in different places of life.
- some are happy
- some are mad
- some are curious
- some are in a frenzy.
Yet Jesus has an something for them all
The problem was what verse 44 says
“ they did not recognized the time of
God’s coming to them.”
They didn’t understand this event.
They were blind to what Jesus was actually
there to do.
They were expecting something else and
weren’t willing to change their expectations.
The same truth continues for us today.
- it doesn’t matter where you are at in your
life:
happy, sad, mad, curious,
discouraged, encouraged.
Jesus is present to do something
in your life.
We can hinder His plan by not
recognizing His activity.
We may think that sounds absurd,
but the scriptures were very clear on what
the Messiah would be doing.
--- yet they missed it
because they wanted something else
so bad that they
weren’t willing to pay attention to what
God was trying to do.
--- sounds like a lot of
Christians I know.
*** be sure to keep what I am saying in the
context of the sermon….
Again these are things we should already know
as we are getting ready for communion.
But like I said, they should have
been able to recognize what Jesus was doing
because it was already spelled out for them
---- but they didn’t and
they missed it.
We can miss it if we are only concerned
with what we want
Look at 1 story and 1 event.

The final question is meant to ask..
With what audacity are you in here?
Many are called but few are chosen.
--- many are called….
Many are called and on the
right path to see a great move of God, to be
used by God in a special way, to have a deeper
life of communion with the Lord….. but few are
chosen.
Why?
Because most aren’t willing to
prepare….
Being called is the easy part
Being chosen is a much different
group.
The picture of laying aside my garments
--- clothes, myself, my
way, my agendas….
Leaving idea of
church out --- focus on life:
This is how I
talk, how I think, how I behave…
--- being willing to put on
His clothes, His way, His agenda.
His way of talking,
thinking, behaving.
Not even so much what
you do, but how you do it and the motivation
behind it.
Sure it’s easy to say and we all understand
it…..
But that begs the question then….. why are so
few chosen??
it sound
simple, but doing it often requires a price
that most people aren’t willing to pay.
Many are called but few are chosen.
Without laying aside things that might be
precious and dear to us… will find ourselves
watching from afar and being disappointed and
miss what God is doing.
Will miss it if we aren’t willing to
change
The final glimpse of this week is found in
Matthew 26:6-13 INCLUDE TEXT
I am sure you have heard plenty of sermons
about this story.
I am sure you would have because Jesus
basically said you would.
This is the last event leading up to
the Passover… communion.
In looking back at all the teachings and
things Jesus said and did over that last week.
This seems to be the culmination of the one who
got it!!!!!
I want to be that one…. The one who gets it.
Imagine a bottle of $35,000 oil. And I just
poured it over someone…..
That’s what this lady did.
All that she had was poured out before Him.
Holding nothing back.
Then the next event Jesus is in is
Passover, the Lord’s Supper.
If we hold something back…. We
are going to miss Him
Again – I don’t want to be the one who misses
what God is doing.
A couple of things about communion… again
this entire week is building up to communion,
crucifixion and the resurrection.
Communion – Jesus gives Passover more
meaning for us..
. it was a symbol of deliverance of the
past.
Now it was a symbol of
relationship and deliverance for today
And for a future freedom.
You don’t want to miss what God is trying to
do.
Many are called to it, but most won’t change
agendas etc.
Most won’t give Him their
all.
One more story….
Leroy
I am going to use our conversation to just
sum up the points
If we don’t understand our priorities
and correct them… we will miss Him
What is it about this morning:
I want to challenge you with this
simple thing…. It seems to be the same thing
Jesus did during that entire week.
True communion with the Lord is about
replacing my priorities with His.
What we do right now also
symbolizes my life keep His priorities in
front of mine.
Again – easy to say…. Difficult
to do. |
